The Great City Of New York is a a project of a college student which gives people all over the world the opportunity to see what the city of New York is really like. This unique project of a college student will continue to fill this website with thousands of photos of New York City over the next years. A very economical camera worth of $100, a student who knows nothing about photography, hunderds of hours walking through the streets of New York, virgin photos which are not edited at all, and the fascination by the unique character of the city is what this website is about.
Most people who visit New York have little only time to explore the city. They all visit its most known landmarks which are definitely great but New York is more than that. Even New Yorkers, many times, don't know their city well enough. For sure, New York is a great city! Is it the greatest in the world as many say? Or is it the perfect city? What we can say is that there is no perfect place. Every city in the world has its pros and cons. But what we can say for sure is that New York is a city full of contrasts, very diverse, home to people from all over the world, with countless opportunities, and thus, a unique place for creative people and dreams to turn into reality. Is it a paradise? Is it the city we see in movies? People abroad or from other states in U.S. mistakenly think that New York is only the elegant city seen in movies and TV series. No, this is only a part of the city. As all cities, New York has many good thing to be proud of but also many bad things to be ashamed of. However, if not the greatest, it is one of the greatest cities in the world! But it is a city that also needs great patience, perseverance, and faith in dreams.
This website has been created to show all people what the city is like only through photos. The creator is not a photographer, the camera very simple, and the photos on purpose "untouched" to give a more real and direct result. We easily understand that this project, although it may be unique, has no intention to present photos which are prefect when seen from the prespective of the art of photography. You will notice that some photos look better and other not. This is because many photos were taken before the concept of this project came to mind. Although no much attention was paid when those first photos were taken, as they were intended for personal only use, we included them to the photos posted on the website for the reason they show unique places in the city. Though it is easy to improve all the photos with a good software, this is not done because we believe all natural things have a different unique beauty even when flaws exist. And because by improving the photos the result would be quite different than the real places in the city, no effort is made to do so. If we did so, the outcome, though probably better, it would also be quite fake which would oppose the purpose of the site which is to show the real face of New York. So no straightening, color or other improvements have been made to make the photos look better. The sole purpose of the webiste is to show the real city of New York and only this. However, the outcome may be rewarding. Thousands of photos take us to a journey to New York City without leaving our room. Thousands of photos and counting....Every week new photos are added!!!
